Each year we present a series of professional touring shows. These events include a variety of talent in the performing arts including headliner singers, international dance troupes, national musical tours and everything in between. Each season offers a variety of shows with something for everyone in the family.
We offer several shows in addition to the annual professional season. These shows are usually offered at a lower price than the professional shows. Bonus shows include productions by our high school band, choir, drama and dance students (Alma Performing Arts), free shows from non-profit groups such as the U.S. Navy Band, and shows from other presenters.
Combining arts and education is one of our highest priorities. Each year we present a series of educational shows appropriate for students in grades preK-12. These shows are presented to Alma students free of charge during the school day. When possible, additional tickets for these shows are made available to other area schools at a discounted rate. Our Alma Literacy in the Arts initiative puts a high emphasis on literacy-based shows when scheduling our educational season. We often present free books to students in conjunction with literacy-based shows.
The visual art gallery is located on the west side of the Alma Performing Arts Center and features rotating exhibits throughout the year. The gallery features professional exhibits and school produced exhibits from Alma High School and Alma Middle School.
Through our partnership with Alma High School, we are able to offer students in grades 9-12 an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the professional theatre world. Students at Alma High School can enroll in stagecraft and costuming classes which are held in our theatre. Through these classes students can qualify for the work program which allows them to be hired as contracted workers for professional shows that come to the Alma PAC as part of our regular season.
At the conclusion of each season, we use a portion of our profits to award high school seniors with college scholarship. Any Alma senior can apply for the scholarship program. The awards are based on financial need and academic potential. The scholarships can be used at any college in the United States.
It is our privilege to recognize local students who have made achievements in academics, athletics and the arts. We host an annual banquet at Alma High School for senior students who in their four years at Alma High School have been selected for an all-state arts or athletic team or who have received an ACT score above the state average. Many of our students achieve both of these honors. Each student who is recognized at the banquet also receives a medal to wear at graduation designating their accomplishments.
